Enrollment Information

The workshop registration fee of $350 includes one day of instruction, instructional materials, lunch, coffee breaks, and a networking reception on Monday evening.

The fee for the optional half day session where you will build your own food safety manual is $125, and a laptop is required for this session. Rental laptops will be available for $70 for the session.

To maximize the interactive discovery process, enrollment will be capped at 50 participants.

Due to the limited enrollment of the workshop, if your plans change, cancellations will be refunded, less a $35 cancellation fee, if requested more than 14 calendar days before the session. Substitutes are welcome.

Who Will Benefit Most

This entry-level course is designed primarily for those beginning to respond to the increasing expectations among buyers and public health regulators for fresh produce suppliers of all scales to have a food safety management plan that addresses key risks and controls that prevent contamination. The course content and key learning’s topics are designed to assist growers, shippers, brokers, farm supervisors, and packinghouse managers to develop or improve skills in hazard identification and risk-based corrective actions that are essential to designing and implementing an on-farm food safety plan.

This course will also benefit participants from grower, handler, processor, and consolidator operations that have been assigned responsibility for Audit Compliance but lack the background in the science of Good Agricultural Practices and Good Handling Practices to recognize problem areas beyond record-keeping, documentation, and audit checklist items. This course will better prepare these individuals to meet farm and packinghouse labor training requirements and develop a top-to-bottom operational food safety culture.

An optional "build your own on-farm food safety manual" is a half-day program designed for those small-scale growers interested in personal hands-on guidance and consultation while using the newly released on-line tool developed by FamilyFarmed.org. Dr. Suslow was among the technical experts involved in its development and functionality testing prior to release. Participants will come away with a completed and printed manual customized for their farm operation and ready to fulfill most expectations of a small-scale third-party audit.
