The Postharvest Technology Short Course is a two-week intensive study of technological procedures used for handling fruits, nuts, vegetables, & ornamentals in California. It is designed for research & extension workers, quality control personnel and other professionals interested in current advances in postharvest technology of horticultural crops.

Those who enroll in the course between April 19 - May 1 will be automatically in a drawing for a $500 gift certificate. Winner to be announced at the Postharvest Technology Short Course BBQ on June 18th.

2-Week Registration Survey

Enrollment for the 2-Week Session of the Postharvest Technology Short Course is limited to 55 participants. Enrollment will be handled on a first-paid, first-enrolled basis.

The 2013 Postharvest Short Course will be held June 17-28, 2013. The first week will consist of lectures & labs and will be held on the UC Davis campus. Check-in begins at 7:30 a.m. on Monday, June 17th at the UC Davis ARC Ballroom. The last lecture will end at 5:00 p.m. Friday, June 21st. The second week field tour bus will depart from the UC Davis campus on Monday, June 24 and will return on Friday, June 28. The Field Tour will include various California destinations, including: Sacramento, Visalia, Bakersfield, Salinas, Monterey & San Francisco.

The 2-Week enrollment fee of $2895 includes all classroom and field instruction, lab activities, course materials, morning and afternoon coffee breaks the first week, Monday - Friday lunches the first week, one barbeque dinner, and field tour transportation. Registration is requested no later than May 17, 2013. Refunds, less a $150 processing fee, will be granted if requested no later than May 17, 2013.

Housing and Meals. Please note that participants are responsible for their own housing (reservations and payment) during the first week of the course. Please see the Postharvest Technology Short Course Web page for additional information.

Participants in the 2-Week course are required to pay for their Field Tour lodging when they enroll in the course. NOTE: Field tour lodging payments are NOT refundable after May 17, 2013.

Please indicate your Single/Double room accommodation preference on the Registration Form. This preference will remain the same for the entire Field Tour. Your field tour lodging fee (single or double) will include accommodations in the following destination cities on the tour: June 25th and 26th in Visalia; June 27th in the Monterey area; and June 28th in San Francisco.

Please note that participants are responsible for their own meals except those specifically noted as included with the registration fee.

Campus Bicycle Rental: The UC Davis campus is one of the largest in the system. The Bike Barn offers rental bicycles to help speed you around campus.

Internet Access. Postharvest Short Course participants will be provided access to a non-secured campus guest wireless account. There are a number of wireless access points on the campus, including the ARC where we'll be meeting the first week, as well as the Segundo Dining Commons, the Memorial Union, and Shields Library.

Parking. Daily campus parking permits cost $7/day and during the first week may be purchased at kiosks near the entrance of the parking lot. Please notify the registration coordinator if you will be parking a vehicle on campus during the week of the field tour.

Airport Information: The closest airport to Davis is Sacramento International (a 25 min. drive). San Francisco and Oakland International airports are about a 1.5 hr. drive. We encourage the 2-Week participants to use this airport as the Field Tour bus completes its route at the Davis campus. It will be possible for Field Tour participants to make arrangements for transportation from the last, or next to last, Bay Area Field Tour stops to the Oakland or San Francisco International Airports.
