Beginning in January 2012 we will be utilizing Google Analytics' "Unique Visitors" metric to measure monthly visitors to the web site.

A "unique visitor" is counted only once during each month, no matter how many times they visit the website. These Google Analytics reports do not document downloads from our extensive library resources or visits to our survey tools. We had incomplete records from June-December 2011 due to the transition to the redesigned website.

Prior to 2012 we measured "page views" of the website. Statistics in the second half of 2011 reflected diminished recording of page and document views due to the move to the new website where our image and document views were no longer recorded. FlashStats software was used to generate statistics between March 2002 and December 2006; and WebTrends software was used prior to FlashStats.The counts show "http requests" and/or "page views," excluding files with the extension gif, jpg, jpeg, and png.

We began using SmarterStats software in January 2007 to generate the Postharvest Technology Center's web site statistics. This program does not include some file extension types that were included by our previous statistics software's reports. The SmarterStats' totals do not include page views by our server's (ANR) Google Search Appliance, or page views of the site's "robot.txt" document. In January 2010 we began subtracting all spider bot page views from our totals, including UCANR's bots (this is reflected in the 'dip' in 2010 in the figure below).
