Question
I am trying to calculate the OTR for a film and I am looking for the respiration (Oxygen consumption) for different produce items. I am guessing this is different from ml CO2/kg·hrinformation provided on your website. Correct me if I am wrong? Thanks. (S.C.)
Answer
Most researchers measure respiration rate as carbon dioxide production rather than oxygen consumption because the former is easier to determine. Thus, the amount of published data on oxygen consumption rates is much less than that on carbon dioxide production. You can assume that the respiratory quotient is 1 and use the published carbon dioxide production rates in ml/kg.h as equal to oxygen consumption rates in ml/kg.h. --Adel A. Kader
